An equation is a balanced scale: doing the same move to both sides keeps it equal, and inverse operations isolate the unknown so its value can be revealed.

What your child will figure out

  • Keep an equation balanced by applying the same removal, addition, or split to both sides.
  • Choose inverse operations that isolate a mystery box, then connect the box to x only after the balance model is understood.
  • Solve one-step, coefficient, and two-step equations and explain why a one-sided move breaks equality.
  • Continue generated practice as difficulty adapts through negatives and variables on both sides.

The levels

  1. Keep the promise

Predict, test, and explain why removing three dots from both sides isolates a symbol-free mystery box while a one-sided move tips the scale.

  2. Numbers appear

Transfer the same balanced removal to numbered quantities and connect the concrete dots to box + 3 = 7.

  3. Meet x

Interpret two x boxes as 2x and split both sides equally to solve 2x = 8.

  4. Two-move transfer

Transfer the balance method to the novel equation 2x + 1 = 7 by undoing addition before splitting both sides.

Ready when they are.
