Creature Code

An event can change a stored variable, then a condition tests the current value and runs exactly one if-or-else behaviour.

What your child will figure out

  • Trace an event through a variable update, condition test, and one selected behaviour.
  • Tune a comparison threshold and predict which branch will run from the current stored value.
  • Explain why the same event can cause a different behaviour after earlier events change state.
  • Transfer event-state-condition reasoning from hunger and feeding to wetness and rain.

The levels

  1. Wake the habitat

Freely fire events and observe the complete causal chain.

  2. Snack signal

Predict and observe Feed changing hunger before the condition is tested.

  3. Two moods

Tune a threshold so two identical Feed events select different branches as hunger changes.

  4. Rainy campsite

Transfer the chain to persistent wetness and shelter after a later rain event.

Ready when they are.
