What your child will figure out

  • Read plotted points as ordered pairs with the horizontal x-coordinate first.
  • Plot exact coordinate pairs by moving from the origin along x and then y.
  • Use the signs of x and y to navigate all four quadrants.
  • Practise generated coordinate challenges at an adaptive difficulty that responds to accuracy, speed, and hints.

The levels

  1. First island

Predict the route, plot (3, 2) in the first quadrant, observe the treasure, and explain x-before-y.

  2. Read the beacon

Read a shown first-quadrant beacon as (4, 1) and explain why the horizontal value is written first.

  3. Chart the reef

Plot (2, 5) on a larger chart without a guide route and use the axes as evidence.

  4. Volcano vault

Transfer the navigation rule to all four quadrants by reading and locating (-3, -2).

Ready when they are.
