What your child will figure out
- Read an analog clock by identifying the short hour hand before counting the long minute hand.
- Set o’clock, half-past, quarter-hour, and five-minute times by moving accurate linked clock hands.
- Explain quarter to as the minutes remaining until the next hour rather than quarter past the current hour.
- Transfer the two-hand model to a new clock and continue with adaptive read-and-set practice through any minute.
The levels
- The first bell
Predict the digital match for an analog 3:00 clock, observe the chime, and explain both hand positions.
- Wake the bakery
Act by setting 7:30, observe the hands lock and bell ring, then explain why the long hand points to 6.
- Cuckoo clue
Read 4:45 and explain that it is quarter to the next hour, using the 15 minutes remaining as evidence.
- Tower transfer
Transfer the same hand rules to a new tower clock by setting 9:25 and explaining five-minute groups.
Ready when they are.
